Caleb Flynn , a Season 12 American Idol alum, is on trial for allegedly killing his wife, Ashley Flynn. During opening statements Friday, prosecutors said they found more than 100,000 messages between Caleb Flynn and his alleged mistress from the year before Ashley was shot in their home. Prosecutors claim Caleb Flynn discussed ways to kill Ashley without going to prison and allegedly told the other woman he would kill his wife “in a heartbeat” if he could avoid eternal punishment. The night before Ashley’s death on February 16, prosecutors say Caleb Flynn texted, “I choose you. I’m free,” followed by a message suggesting that actions would come the next day. What Does the Defense Say? According to prosecutors, Ashley Flynn was shot twice in the back of the head while lying in bed, and the crime scene was allegedly arranged to resemble a burglary. Caleb Flynn’s defense team argues that investigators have no direct or forensic evidence connecting him to the killing and says the alleged affair drove the investigation. Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say the couple’s young daughters were home that night and could testify, while a 911 call and police body camera footage are expected to be part of the case. Caleb Flynn previously told dispatchers that an intruder had entered the home and shot Ashley, and footage showed him visibly distressed at the scene.
