Debby Ryan opened up about the lasting effects of five concussions during the September 15 episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, saying a severe brain injury left her unable to work for six months. The Jessie alum also described migraines, sensory overload, and permanent changes that reshaped how she moves through daily life. Ryan said her first four concussions felt like isolated incidents, while the fifth followed more than a minute of sustained shaking. She underwent six months of neurological rehabilitation and tried an unconventional treatment more than once, which helped her regain function, though Ryan said some abilities never fully returned. What Changed After the Injury? Ryan explained that bright spaces, loud environments, and heavy visual stimulation can now feel overwhelming. Closing her eyes helps Ryan think more clearly, while her migraines become significantly worse when too much sensory information hits at once. Ryan credited her husband, Josh Dun , and her wider support system with helping her adjust after the injury. The couple married in 2019 and share an eight month old daughter named Felix, while Ryan said the people around her supported both her recovery and the possibility that some changes could be permanent.
