Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Glenn Hughes , 75, announced his retirement from touring and live performances after medical scans showed he needs another open-heart surgery. The former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath musician had already canceled his spring U.S. tour, and his May 30 appearance with the Dead Daisies now stands as his final concert. Hughes said on social media that multiple MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram led his medical team to recommend the procedure. Hughes described the surgery as unavoidable and said protecting his health must come before performing, while an October 2 show billed as the Purple Daisies has been canceled. Why Is Glenn Hughes Leaving the Stage? Hughes performed his final show with the Dead Daisies under the Purple Daisies name, featuring a set that devoted half its runtime to Deep Purple songs. The musician recorded two studio albums with the Dead Daisies, making the canceled October date an especially notable last-minute change. Hughes built a career spanning more than five decades with Trapeze, Deep Purple’s Mark III and Mark IV lineups, Black Sabbath’s Seventh Star , and Black Country Communion.
