Jennifer Lawrence will lead The Flood , an original sci fi thriller from director Zach Cregger , with Warner Bros. planning a theatrical release for August 11, 2028. The project follows Cregger’s breakout run with Resident Evil and 2025’s Weapons , but plot details remain locked down. New Line Cinema is producing the film for Warner Bros., with Amblin Entertainment, Roy Lee, and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment also attached. The movie reunites Cregger with New Line after Weapons earned $270 million worldwide in 2025, giving this mysterious follow up some serious box office receipts before anyone knows what it is about. Why Is The Flood Staying So Secret? Cregger praised his previous collaboration with New Line and called Lawrence a singular talent while discussing the new project. Warner Bros. film chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy also described Lawrence as the right actor to anchor Cregger’s ambitious vision, signaling that the studio sees The Flood as a major original release rather than a quiet genre experiment. Lawrence’s involvement marks her return to a high concept studio thriller with a filmmaker whose recent work has built real momentum. Lawrence is represented by LBI Entertainment and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller and Gellman, while audiences will have to wait until August 2028 for the floodgates to open.
