Jimmy Kimmel threatened Tuesday to report President Donald Trump to the FCC after Trump appeared to suggest Iran could target Los Angeles or San Diego. During his Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue, Kimmel called the remarks among the most indefensible statements he had heard from Trump. Kimmel argued that Trump was discussing attacks on American cities while the United States and Iran were in conflict. The comedian also mocked Trump with a series of sharp insults, saying the president needed medical treatment and accusing him of wishing harm on the country. The FCC hypocrisy callout Kimmel connected the controversy to the backlash he faced after making an April joke about Melania Trump. Conservative media figures had demanded that Kimmel be removed from television over that comment, so Kimmel said he would now use the same FCC logic against Trump, calling the double standard impossible to overlook. Trump made the Los Angeles and San Diego comments during a rally one day before Kimmel addressed them. A White House representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while Trump’s response team later said the president was not literally asking Iran to bomb American cities.
