Jooselord will launch the free All Onyx World Music Festival in Durham on October 30, 2026, seven months after his 5 year old son Onyx died following a battle with brain cancer. The event will bring 33 North Carolina artists to seven venues while supporting families facing serious childhood illness. The festival also serves as a tribute to Onyx and a fundraiser spotlight for Onyx Is Hope, the nonprofit Jooselord created to help families navigating difficult medical journeys. Jooselord has described grief as especially heavy in recent weeks, but music and community have given him a way to keep moving. How Is Jooselord Keeping Onyx’s Name Alive? Jooselord said the support surrounding Onyx’s diagnosis showed him what collective care can look like, and he now wants to extend that same help to other families. Durham venue owners quickly backed the idea, turning a personal memorial into a citywide event with performances from Pierce Freelon, Rueben Vincent, Cyanca, G Yamazawa, and Jooselord. Jooselord views the festival as the first chapter rather than a one time tribute. His goal is to grow All Onyx World into an annual event, keep supporting families affected by childhood illness, and attach Onyx’s name to everything he creates through music.
