Jujutsu Kaisen helped propel MAPPA to the top of Asia's anime studio rankings between July 2025 and August 2026, according to a Media Partners Asia report released September 16, 2026. The series ranked as the leading anime in seven of eight tracked markets during the first half of 2026, while anime viewing surged across streaming platforms. MPA found that between 31% and 47% of premium video on demand users watched anime each month during the period, compared with 26% to 34% for the other seven genres in its study. Japan went even harder, with monthly anime reach ranging from 45% to 59%, while anime represented 28% of tracked viewing hours there. Anime Is No Longer Just a Licensing Play Jujutsu Kaisen's momentum lifted MAPPA's share of regional anime viewing from 6.1% in the second half of 2025 to 17.3% in the first half of 2026. That put MAPPA ahead of TMS Entertainment at 16.6%, Toei Animation at 13%, and titles associated with Aniplex at 12%. Netflix captured about half of anime viewing across the region, with 51% of anime hours in the second half of 2025 and 50% in the first half of 2026. MPA's analysis found Netflix anime viewing in Japan climbed from 3.33 billion hours in the first half of 2023 to 4.64 billion hours in the first half of 2026, a 39% increase compared with 4.5% growth for Netflix overall, and the report points to Netflix's January 2026 partnership with MAPPA as evidence that streaming is moving from simply licensing hits to building ownership around major franchises.
