McKenna West is at the center of a legal fight over baby Gabriel after newly filed court documents revealed that her August 2025 surrogacy agreement required a pregnancy termination if intended parents Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed requested it because of a fetal abnormality. West later declined to proceed with the abortion, and Gabriel was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The agreement says West, identified as the gestational carrier, had considered termination and consulted a psychologist before signing. The document also states that West understood the intended parents’ wishes and agreed to follow their request, while Gilkar and Ahmed agreed to arrange necessary medical care related to the procedure. What Else Did the Agreement Cover? West reportedly told Worldwide Surrogacy, the agency involved in the arrangement, that she could not go through with an abortion scheduled for May. In that letter, West said she worried she would never forgive herself if she ended the pregnancy, according to the filing. The contract also restricted West from traveling more than 75 miles from her Alaska home after reaching 32 weeks of pregnancy and said she was not supposed to choose the baby’s name. West ultimately named the child Gabriel after his birth. The payment schedule called for 10 monthly installments of $6,000. A judge has issued a temporary restraining order preventing West from making medical decisions for Gabriel until at least August 25. Gilkar and Ahmed currently have full decision-making authority while Gabriel remains hospitalized, making this dispute a legal battle over both custody and medical control.
