Nick Reiner was indicted on two counts of first degree murder after his siblings, Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner , testified before the Los Angeles grand jury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and PEOPLE. The indictment, returned in July and unsealed on August 12, concerns the December 2025 deaths of their parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Singer Reiner , at their Los Angeles home. The indictment includes special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait, along with an allegation that a knife was used. Prosecutors say those allegations could increase the punishment if Nick Reiner is convicted, but the death penalty decision has not been announced. What Happens to Nick Reiner Next? Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty to the indictment after it was unsealed and had already entered a not guilty plea to the original murder charges. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for September, no trial date has been set, and Nick Reiner remains jailed without bail at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility. Nick Reiner is also asking a California court for access to an estimated $1.5 million trust so the defendant can hire a private legal team. If convicted, Nick Reiner could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole; prosecutors have not said which sentence they will pursue.
