Prue Leith says she was hospitalized in Yorkshire, England, a few weeks ago after a severe migraine temporarily disrupted her vision and speech. The 86 year old “Great British Baking Show” judge described the episode in an upcoming column for The Oldie magazine, according to The Sun. Leith said the attack caused her to see only part of what was in front of her, along with flashing, colored lights in the upper right side of her vision. Her speech also became so jumbled that John Playfair , her husband, feared she was having a stroke and called for an ambulance. Why Did Doctors Order a CT Scan? Prue Leith said her symptoms eventually eased enough for her to speak clearly, but Playfair still urged her to undergo brain imaging. Because Leith is 86, hospital staff wanted to rule out a transient ischemic attack, commonly called a mini stroke, before sending her home. Leith recalled waiting several hours for the CT scan and roughly another hour for the results before doctors discharged her. She also said migraines had affected her ability to speak since childhood, but this episode was serious enough to require emergency care.
