Sandra Bullock discussed partner Bryan Randall ’s death from ALS during an appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast this week. Randall died in 2023, and Bullock said she kept his diagnosis private because Randall asked her to, even though carrying the secret left her feeling isolated. Speaking with Jason Bateman , Sean Hayes , and Will Arnett , Bullock explained that only her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado , knew about Randall’s illness at first. Bullock later confided in Jennifer Aniston and Amanda Anka , Bateman’s wife, because she needed emotional support while protecting Randall’s privacy. The Goodbye Started Before the Funeral Bullock said the grief began long before Randall’s death because ALS had already changed their life together. “My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” Bullock said, describing how she stayed focused on getting through each day rather than processing what was happening. Bullock and Randall met in 2015 at her son Louis’ fifth birthday party, where Randall worked as the photographer. The couple made their public debut later that fall, and Randall was 57 when he died in 2023.
