Sara Gilson and her estranged husband, Shawn Duffey , were found dead in their Oklahoma home on Thursday, July 23, in an apparent murder suicide that remains under investigation. Court records obtained by Us Weekly show Duffey filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2024, listing nearly $260,000 in debts and about $41,000 in assets. In the filing, Duffey identified Gilson as a codebtor and described her work as social media influencing and salon styling. The documents listed the couple’s combined monthly income at approximately $6,458, with monthly expenses of about $6,275 and roughly $12,000 in student loans. Duffey reported owning a Glock 19 valued at $450, wedding rings worth $200, a 2019 GMC Sierra valued at $35,000, household furniture, electronics, clothing, a lawn mower, and a computer and camera. He listed $100 in checking, $300 in savings, and the Oklahoma home where the deaths reportedly occurred as his address; the bankruptcy case was discharged a few months after filing. The Timeline Raises Heavy Questions According to Tulsa’s ABC affiliate, an unidentified family member told authorities the separated couple died in a murder suicide, with Duffey allegedly shooting Gilson before taking his own life. An Owasso Police Department dispatcher told first responders that Gilson could be heard screaming and crying during a 911 call reportedly placed by a child who lived at the home. Gilson filed for a protective order against Duffey on June 10, claiming he had a firearm and had “gone on the run,” according to the petition. About two weeks before her death, Gilson said on TikTok that the marriage was over and accused Duffey of pedophilia; Duffey did not publicly respond, and those claims remain unverified. Gilson’s former husband, Lyle Landers , also told People that he allegedly begged her to leave Duffey and said she had been in a relationship where domestic abuse appeared normalized. Gilson is survived by two children from her previous relationship, and authorities have not announced a final conclusion in the case.
