Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff are developing 215, a scripted series about their rise from West Philadelphia’s late Eighties hip hop scene, according to details announced October 6, 2026. The project will dramatize the duo’s pursuit of a record deal, money, and a shot at performing beyond their hometown. Westbrook Studios, Smith’s production company, is developing the series with investors from the Malar Group. Set in late Eighties West Philly, 215 follows a teenage rapper, his DJ partner, and the friends who help them chase music industry success while balancing hometown loyalty, label meetings, sudden fame, and relationships under pressure. Before The Fresh Prince Took Over DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince released “Girls Ain’t Nothing but Trouble” in 1986, followed by their debut album, Rock the House, in 1987. Their 1988 album, He’s the DJ, I’m the Rapper, went triple platinum on the strength of “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and “A Nightmare on My Street.” Will Smith later became a television and movie star after The Fresh Prince of Bel Air premiered on NBC in 1990, but the partnership continued through three more albums, ending with 1993’s Code Red. Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff reunited most recently at the 2023 Grammys during the ceremony’s celebration of 50 years of hip hop, giving 215 a very real musical history to mine.
