Zahara Marley Jolie legally removed Brad Pitt’s surname on September 28, after a Los Angeles court approved her request to change her name from Zahara Marley Jolie Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. The 21 year old first filed the petition in June, shortly after graduating from Spelman College in Atlanta with a psychology degree. The court document stated that there were no objections to the petition, making the change official. Representatives for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were contacted for comment, but had not responded at the time of publication. Zahara Had Already Been Using Jolie Zahara Marley Jolie had been publicly using her mother’s surname well before the court ruling. She introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during her 2023 Alpha Kappa Alpha induction, and Spelman College used the same name when she walked across the stage to receive her diploma. California required Zahara to publish notice of the proposed change in the Los Angeles Daily Journal in July, giving anyone who objected an opportunity to submit a written response before the court issued its final decision. Zahara is the second of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s six children to receive approval for a legal name change. Shiloh, now 20, received approval in 2024 after filing on her 18th birthday. Maddox, 25, and Vivienne, 18, have also pursued similar changes, although their requests were still pending in the report. Maddox was adopted by Angelina Jolie after she met him in Cambodia during a 2001 visit connected to Tomb Raider, and Brad Pitt later began the process of adopting him as well. Maddox also worked on Angelina Jolie’s 2017 film First They Killed My Father, which was based on her experiences in Cambodia.
