Zohran Mamdani and Donald Trump are scheduled to meet this week at Gracie Mansion for their third in person meeting, according to CNN. The sit down is expected before the United Nations General Assembly and will address issues affecting New York City and its residents, Mamdani’s spokesperson said. The mayor and president first met at the White House in November 2025, where their unexpectedly cordial exchange made headlines. Trump later returned to calling Mamdani a “lunatic,” despite the warmer tone of their initial Oval Office encounter. Can They Keep It Civil? Mamdani and Trump met again in February 2026, but their most recent shared New York appearance was far less collaborative. Both attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals in June, the only game in the championship series that the Knicks lost, and Mamdani said beforehand that he planned to attend separately from Trump. The political friction has also extended to Israel and the United Nations gathering. After Mamdani told The New York Times that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “belongs in The Hague,” Trump pushed back and said Netanyahu would not be arrested during his visit to the United States for the General Assembly.
